We're in Venado, on the Nicoya Peninsula, on Guanacaste's Pacific coast: 10 minutes from Playa Marbella and 30 from Nosara. The nearest airport is Liberia (LIR), about an hour and a half by car. No 4x4 needed.

The Río Tabaco runs clean from the mountains, crossed by a hammock bridge. It's the place guests come back to again and again—to cool off at midday, walk among the stones, or just sit for a while with their feet in the water.

The house is surrounded by tropical dry forest. Howler monkeys set the morning, and iguanas, birds and butterflies show up uninvited. Short trails around the property are perfect for a coffee walk or stretching your legs after lunch.
Our story
The family house
This house belongs to the Mendoza Miranda family—Guanacastecos through and through. They built it with their own hands and opened its doors to anyone who wants to experience the real Costa Rica.
Here, you wake up to birdsong and howler monkeys, take a dip in the nearby Río Tabaco, relax in a hammock with a telescope at hand, and watch the Milky Way stretch across the night sky. The beaches are just around the corner, and horses still wander through the village streets.
No traffic. No city lights. No crowds. Just real calm—the kind that's becoming hard to find.

Do I need a car?
Yes, we recommend it: the beaches and the river are a short drive away. You don't need a 4x4; a regular car works year-round. From Liberia airport (LIR) it's an hour and a half; from San José, nearly five.
Is the internet good enough to work remotely?
Yes. The house has stable fiber Wi-Fi and a desk with an office chair, and Kölbi and Movistar coverage is good in the area. Many guests stay for weeks working remotely.
Is it good for kids?
Absolutely. The pool is private and there's plenty of space to run around.
Are turtle arribadas year-round?
Ostional has arribadas almost every month, but the big ones run from July to December, especially September and October. Visits are with the refuge's local guides. We'll let you know if one happens during your stay.
How far is Nosara?
About a 30-minute drive. It's the closest bigger town for surf, yoga and restaurants; Playa Marbella is 10 minutes away and San Juanillo and Ostional 25.
Is the house wheelchair accessible?
Yes. The whole property is wheelchair accessible and both cabins have a spacious accessible bathroom. Message us with what you need and we'll share the details.
Are there neighbors nearby?
This is a rural area. The closest neighbors are several hundred meters away. Total privacy.
Do you allow pets?
Ask us on WhatsApp with details about your pet — we evaluate case by case.
Can I host a big event or gathering?
The house fits up to 10 guests. For larger events or celebrations, message us first on WhatsApp and we'll figure it out.
